Women wins landmark divorce case – compensation for giving up career

The court has ruled that a wife who gave up her career as a
solicitor to care for the children which allowed her husbands career to take
precedence has encountered  a
“significant relationship generated disadvantage” this led Mr Justice Moor to
find that the wife should receive £400,000 compensation as well as 50% of the
matrimonial assets.

This could have implications for future cases where a spouse
has given up a career to care for the family although Mr Justice Moor has said
that this should not open the floodgates for such arguments and should only be
considered in exceptional cases.
